About The Idea Shift
Part field notes, part love letter to folks rewriting work, purpose and pleasure at the edge of the future. The Idea Shift offers grounded insights on business, creativity, and transformation for founders, leaders, and dreamers ready to work in a new way.
“The Idea Shift speaks to my soul as a female entrepreneur. It's like Katharine's always in my head (and heart) at just the right time. Warm, wonderfully written, and packed full of helpful (often not found) guidance on growing a business.”
Amy VanHaren, Founder and CEO of pumpspotting
i'm writing a book...How to Flourish in the Age of AI
I should start by saying that I’m not immune to the doomsday chatter — but for 99% of us, it’s not a helpful way to live. Who really knows what’s going to happen next?
What I do know is this: it’s entirely possible to imagine a future where AI does the hustle and grind for us, and we finally get to blossom into our fullest creative, intuitive, and relational potential.
-
To do that, we’ll need new muscles — and ancient ones. The ability to discern what’s real in a world of simulations. To hear the quiet inner tuning fork that tells us what’s true and what’s ours to do. To build self-trust so deep that it becomes strategy — the kind of leadership the next era requires.
We’ll need to embrace the paradox that true self-expression requires both individuation and belonging. To refuse the broken bargain of the last era — the one that said, “Shave off your weird and wild edges, and we’ll give you safety and belonging.” And instead to remember that every one of those edges is there for a reason — each one a signal, a clue, a spark of what the world actually needs from you.
Because flourishing isn’t a solo project. We are pack animals — not meant to be our authentic selves alone at home with our pets or our screens, but to live that authenticity in real community. With 3D humans who love us, challenge us, show up for us, hug us, and make us laugh. That’s what keeps us rooted, sane, and awake.
That is the full human experience we’re here to have.
This book is a companion for navigating the practical, the philosophical, and the downright absurd at the turning of an era.
Chapters may include:
What are we really here for? (Hint: it’s not traditional notions of work)

How to enhance your creativity — with AI as your amplifier, not your replacement
